About me

Picture

Matthew Fuirst, MSc

Associate Wildlife Biologist

I am an Associate Wildlife Biologist and PhD candidate in the Norris lab in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Guelph. I conduct all field work at Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario.

Research

My research aims to understand animal movements and foraging behaviour using various biologging tools and long-term monitoring data. My current work investigates the causes and consequences of dispersal in a declining population of Canada jays. Previously I have studied the foraging ecology of herring gulls, black-backed gulls, and Florida Scrub-Jays.

Latest News

I organized a symposium on emerging studies on natal dispersal and presented a talk at the American Ornithological Conference. Thank you to all our symposium presenters.

Our recent article on Canada jays was selected as the cover photo for Ecosphere!
