About me

Picture

Matthew Fuirst, PhD

Associate Wildlife Biologist

I am an Associate Wildlife Biologist and lecturer in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Guelph. I conducted all my PhD field work in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario.

Research

My research aims to understand animal movements and foraging behaviour using various biologging tools and long-term monitoring data. My current work investigates the causes and consequences of dispersal in a declining population of Canada jays. Previously I have studied the foraging ecology of herring gulls, black-backed gulls, and Florida Scrub-Jays.

Latest News

I presented a talk at the Ecological Society of America-Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution joint Conference.

I recently travelled to the Red Sea Research Center to lead a collaborative study on threatened white-eyed gulls in the Middle East!
